Romeo and Juliet Summer 2011

This summer the Steed/Pollock cousins presented "Romeo and Juliet". I would say it was one of the grandest events to come to Waterton.  Aunt Maribeth and her daughter Jacqueline came up with the grand idea, and the preparations began long before summer.  The kids spent a week learning their lines and practicing.   The kids loved doing it, the girls were really into it, the boys liked it but were a bit done by the end of the week.  Aunt Cathy was in charge of the costumes and they were incredible. Aunt Andrea was in charge of the sets, we even had a balcony.  We hope it becomes a tradition.  It was so fun to watch and listen to the kids learn Shakespeare, they needed a bit of prompting sometimes but I couldn't believe how they learned their lines.

Reuben was Lord Montague, Romeo's father.  His outfit was one of the best.  He didn't even say a thing about it, just wore it with pride.  The bloomers are puffed up boxing shorts.
Caroline was Friar Lawrence as well as a towns person.
Ava gave the first prologue and participated as a town's person. Lots of the costumes were the Pollock's old dresses from when they were little.  Her hair was a french braid around her head and she even had earings.   She had all four of her lines memorized. Hair was done by Michelle Pollock and her Jensen cousins.  The up-do's were amazing and everyone wore make-up. No details were missed.
The cutest part of the play was the ballroom dance scene.  It was choreographed by the Jensen cousins.They all had masks, it was a masked ball.  The dance started as a ballroom dance then a hip hop song came on and they all broke out into a hip hop routine.  They loved the hip hop dance and they would regularly break out into it throughout the summer.

 The entire cast, made up of all the Pollock cousins, Dixons, David Steed's kids, an us the Baldry's. These are the kids of my cousins. We don't see these cousins much through the year so it is fun to spend time in Waterton, my kids love playing with all the cousins.

 

The balcony became the favorite spot to play for the rest of the summer.  

The boys loved the fight scenes. 

It was great cultural event and a great education for our kids.  Thanks the the Pollocks for all the hours they spent making it a great success, we hope it becomes a tradition.
